Applied Learning

Did you know the amount of new technical information is doubling every 2 years? As a response to the ever changing  demands made by employers and in response to the rapidly expanding global market, Oakwood Park Grammar School has added a second specialism in Applied Learning to its existing one as a specialist  I.T. and Maths College.

As a high performing specialist Mathematics and Computing school we were invited to apply for a second specialism and the school decided to apply for Applied Learning to enable us to expand the curriculum and also develop some of the new Diplomas in the future.  As a school we are seeking to respond to the national agenda that recognises that students need to be prepared for a changing work force. From 2009 Key Stage 4 will be able to opt, at G.C.S.E, for Applied subjects ranging from Applied Business to Applied Design and Technology.

We are delighted to have achieved the second specialism and look forward to working with our link schools from ME16+ to ensure that a wider provision is available for all students.  We are very unusual as a Grammar as we seek to raise the perception of applied learning and meld it with a high level academic curriculum.
