Subject content

In Year 7 we do a Foundation unit that introduces various skills and processes, including drawing form observation, printmaking and ceramics. We do a unit of work on Portraits which includes self-portraits, a three - dimensional figure and studying the work of Edvard Munch. We do a unit of work on African art which involves making a mask and otheractivities.

In Year 8 we do a printmaking project based on the work of Henri Matisse, a landscape project based on John Piper (with a ceramics element) and a study of Abstraction.

In year 9 we look at Impressionism, post Impressionism and Cubism (including work in ICT on photocubism).

Extension work

All key stages are encouraged to use the Art department facilities at break and lunchtimes to either carry on with class work or do their own personal work.

There is an Art club that is open to 'gifted and talented' students. Last year they did a group project based on the work of graffiti artist Banksy and this resulted in a mural for the quad area.

Enrichment days and trips

All year 7 students visit the British Museum as part of their African art project.

Year 8 students visit the National Gallery and this will include a talk from one of the gallery's lecturers.
