  Computing - Key Stage 5

Schemes of Work

Year 12

Year 13

Subject Content

In Year 12, Computing students will:

  • develop an understanding of the main principles of solving problems using computers
  • develop an understanding of the range of applications of computers and the effects from using them
  • develop an understanding of the organisation of computer systems including software, data, hardware, communications and people
  • learn how to write computer programs
  • and acquire the skills necessary to apply this understanding to developing computer-based solutions to problems.

In Year 13 you will extend your knowledge in these fields and look more deeply into the structure and working of the processor and into different types of programming.  Coursework includes a programming project in Year 13.

The course is updated most years – for instance recent additions include work on network routers, switch units, bridges and other devices.

All of the modules in the Computing course are examined by the completion of coursework or by written examination.
