Geography is a popular subject in the school with four GCSE groups in both Year 10 and Year 11 and two groups taking AS/A2 level in Year 12 and in Year 13. Many of our students go on to study Geography and related subjects at University.
Geography stimulates pupils' interest in their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the earth's surface. It helps to develop an informed concern about the environment and enhances the pupils' sense of responsibility for the care of the earth and its people.
In Geography lessons, we investigate a wide range of people, places and environments at different scales around the world. We carry out enquiry work, identifying geographical questions and we encourage pupils to develop their own opinions.
A variety of resources are used, including maps, atlases, satellite images, aerial photos, texts and ICT.
Fieldwork is carried out across the year groups to reinforce understanding of issues and processes studied in the classroom. At GCSE and A level, fieldwork is an important component of the examination.
