The A level course enables students to study topics which concern themselves and the wider German-speaking world, and current events form a large part of the curriculum. At the same time, literature, history, film and the media are studied. Students have the chance to specialise in areas of particular interest when preparing for the Oral paper.
The standard of written and spoken German is naturally very high at this level, and students should be able to cope with everyday language as used by a native-speaker. They are encouraged to spend as much time as possible in a German-speaking environment, perhaps by arranging study visits or work-experience placements abroad.
Recently, short residential trips have been arranged to the Christmas market at Aachen and to Berlin . We have welcomed the Onatti Theatre Group to the school, who perform plays to language-learners.
