Graphic Design is a subject option available to pupils of Year 12 and 13. The course is structured to allow students to respond to design briefs following diverse and creative experiments. Observational studies are completed in a range of media and generally form the basis of the student's sketchbooks.
The AS course is structured as follows:
As most of our students haven't studied the subject at GCSE, we begin our study program with an introductory project. Students begin to fill their sketchbooks while completing different workshops, each focusing on a different skill. All work completed in the workshops relates to a favourite song chosen by each student. At the start of term 2 students reflect on their progress through tutorials and group discussions, from this they are able to decide on a suitable direction for their project. Outcomes to the 'Song' project have included posters, T-Shirt designs, album covers and flyer designs.
In term 3 and 4 students have the opportunity to continue project work, this time choosing their own project briefs.
Towards the end of term 4 preparations for the exam begin, with students sitting the five hour practical exam in May.

The A2 course is structured as follows:
Students have the opportunity to develop a project over four terms. The practical work is complemented by a short related written assignment. Project outlines are entirely the students own choice although they are supported in their decisions through tutorials and group discussions. Project outlines have been varied, this year Rich is redesigning the Olympics campaign while Chris is exploring the art of doodling!
Again, exam preparation begins at the end of term 4, with students sitting a 3 day (fifteen hour) exam in May.
