This language is offered as a GCSE option, for pupils who have completed the Cambridge Latin Course Book 1 in Year 9
LANGUAGE
Pupils who have opted for GCSE Latin will consolidate the basic language learned previously. Over the two years, the Cambridge Latin Course Books 2, 3 and 4 will be studied for grammar, prose translation and comprehension. This will be examines in Paper 1 of GCSE.
VERSE AND PROSE
The specification for GCSE Latin requires students to study prose and verse texts from the original. Authors will include Ovid, Virgil, Catullus, Pliny, Martial and Petronius. In the GCSE exam, students have to be able to translate extracts from the texts and answer context and style questions. These skills are tested in Paper 2 and 4 .
BACKGROUND STUDIES
Students concentrate on one aspect of Roman civilisation. Present students are learning about Everyday Life in Roman Society, including Daily Life, Schools, Houses, Roman Baths,
