  Music - Key Stage 5

Key Stage 3

Key Stage 4

Key Stage 5

Subject content

A Level Music (OCR) is supported by the school, although a minority subject. Students should expect to perform at grade 6 level or better and to read standard notation effectively. The areas of study include close analysis of orchestral scores, jazz and show/film music. Students give a concert in February of their recital pieces in preparation for a live moderation. Dedication to departmental music is expected.

Extension work

All pupils should be engaged in some way with performance outside the class lessons. This is usually with a school-based ensemble. Trips to Glyndebourne and London concerts are arranged. Attendance at local concerts is encouraged. The facilities offered by Kent Music and Maidstone Youth Music Society are publicised.

Enrichment days and trips

These days are set aside for individual and group work, especially in preparation for ensemble performance and coursework recording
