The Spanish Department is in contact with a school in Chile , Kingston College in Concepción, through video conferences. These are regularly set allowing students to develop real conversational skills and to develop their awareness of young people in Latin America . Moreover, e-mail contracts are made between our students and our Chilean contact school.
The A level course involves firstly a thorough review of the Spanish speaking world enabling the students to understand the different economical, social and religious aspects of the countries in which Spanish is spoken. Students are often faced with the reality through the media with films, news, literature, etc.
Students should be able to cope with everyday language as used by a native-speaker at this level. They are encouraged to spend as much time as possible in a Spanish-speaking environment, perhaps by arranging study visits or work-experience placements abroad.
In the past years, several cultural visits have been organised to Spanish speaking destinations from Spain ( Madrid , Andalusia) to Mexico , in order to encourage a better understanding of the country and the culture.
We have also welcomed visits from the Onatti Theatre Group to the school, who perform plays to language-learners, in the Target Language.
