Spanish is introduced as a second foreign language in addition to French, which has been studied since Year 7.
The Spanish Department is in contact with a school in Chile , Kingston College in Concepción, through video conferences. These are regularly set allowing students to develop real conversational skills and to develop their awareness of young people in Latin America . Moreover, e-mail contracts are made between our students and our Chilean contact school.
The learning of Spanish at this level enables the pupils to have the basic skills to communicate in the foreign language focusing on personal information, the family, the school life and their interests.
Grammatically, we introduce the Present tense and the immediate future. The pupils discover also several patterns of irregular verbs, as well as other structures such as genders, agreements of adjectives, etc.
This course give the pupils basic conversational skills to communicate, giving and asking information about personal details, directions and places, food and drinks, etc.
In the past years, several cultural visits have been organised to Spanish speaking destinations from Spain ( Madrid , Andalusia) to Mexico , in order to encourage a better understanding of the country and the culture.
We have also welcomed visits from the Onatti Theatre Group to the school, who perform plays to language-learners, in the Target Language.
