Discussions with your Academic Mentor and Head of Sixth Form, as part of the monitoring process, are key features of the academic tutoring and general monitoring of each member of the Sixth Form. They are central to improving your academic grades. Interviews require time, a venue free from interruption, a clear purpose, an agenda and preparation by both your tutor and yourself. You need to make full use of these interviews and ensure that they are a two way process.
AIMS
The aims of the interview should be to:
- identify your potential, your strengths and your weaknesses
- recognise, support and celebrate areas where you are working well and involving yourself constructively and positively in school life
- identify areas where you are not fulfilling your potential and agree targets for attainment in these areas
- to agree a plan of action designed to attain these targets
- discuss any concerns you may have about your studies or about the Sixth Form in general
DATA
The data which will be used in these interviews include the baseline figures used to project performance and set expectations, snapshot grades/comments provided by subject teachers, monitoring grades, attendance figures and predicted/target grades.
GENERAL POINTS
It is important that you use the meetings with your Academic Mentor and Head of Sixth Form to include your own assessment of progress to date and targets for future improvement. Targets need to be challenging but achievable. They need to be agreed with your Academic Mentor.
Although emphasis is on academic progress discussions will cover all aspects of your Sixth Form career including involvement in a range of activities. All aspects of Sixth Form commitment will form part of an overall action plan to ensure continued progress and improvement. These aspects will include UCAS/career options, outside interests, work management, study leave and study skills.
Meetings with your Academic Mentor will be held on a fortnightly basis and a record made as part of the ongoing monitoring process of the Sixth Form.
