Key Stage 4

Key Stage 5

Subject Content

GCSE Music (AQA) is an option taken by about 10% of the year group. This requires recorded solo and ensemble performances, composition and a very wide range of listening skills. Areas of Study include: Dance music, Popular music since 1960, Film music and Orchestral landmarks since 1750. Students are expected already to have attained an intermediate performance level. The ability to read standard notation is expected or learned in Theory Club. Participation in extracurricular school groups is also expected.

Extension Work

All pupils should be engaged in some way with performance outside the class lessons. This is usually with a school-based ensemble. Trips to Glyndebourne and London concerts are arranged. Attendance at local concerts is encouraged. The facilities offered by Kent Music and Maidstone Youth Music Society are publicised.

Enrichment Days and Trips

These days are set aside for individual and group work, especially in preparation for ensemble performance and coursework recording.
