It continues to be an aim of Oakwood Park Grammar School to enhance the positive role of prefects in the School. They play a key part in the general running of the School on a day-to-day basis but they also have great opportunity to become directly involved in a range of different activities both to do with the Sixth Form and also the School as a whole. These activities are seen by prefects as opportunities to experience something different and to gain a range of different skills.
The Head Boy and Girl and Deputies are chosen from their application forms followed by consultation with staff and an interview by senior staff.
The Senior Prefects are also chosen through a similar application process.
Prefects are appointed in the first half of the Spring Tern and take up their duties after February half term. The Prefects are chosen through an application process and staff interview. The Prefects have specific responsibility for certain key areas in the school and as a result have a major impact on the life of the School. They also take responsibility for general duties around the school on specific days.
At present there are approximately 50 prefects. Prefects wear a lapel badge. They take part in an induction day early in the second half of the Spring Term on which a number of different aspects of being a prefect are studied. Increasingly they are seen as an important part of the School taking on a much wider role than just helping to keep discipline and order in the School.
