Form Time Curriculum

Character Education and Wellbeing

Form-Time Curriculum

Overview:

At OPGS we believe that education should develop the whole person, equipping students not only with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed academically, but also with the character, confidence, resilience and values needed to flourish in adult life.

Our school community is built around three fundamental principles: Kindness, Tolerance and Respect. These principles underpin our expectations of how students treat themselves, each other and the wider community. Through our curriculum, pastoral provision and wider school experiences, students are encouraged to develop these qualities and to understand how their choices, attitudes and actions affect others.

Character education is woven through our wider Personal Development programme at OPGS. Each year group undertakes a comprehensive form time curriculum focused on wellbeing, finance education and character development. This provides opportunities to discuss important issues, challenge and debate ideas, reflect on personal development and develop positive relationships within their form community. This curriculum is further supported by the whole-school PSHE curriculum which includes dedicated resilience lessons to help students understand how to respond constructively to challenge, setbacks and change. Students are encouraged to develop perseverance, self-awareness and confidence, recognising that resilience is an important quality for learning and for life beyond school.
