Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope that the boys managed to have a look at planning their journeys to school last week – It can be a source of anxiety for students in the first few weeks but if you continue to talk about the journey at home, or when you are out and about (including what they can do as a contingency plan if things go wrong), this should help them to manage the journey more smoothly and reduce the anxiety in the build up to the start of school in September.

This week’s task is for the boys to familiarise themselves with the school website and complete pages 3-6 of the booklet. The majority of the answers can be found in the year 6-7 transition section of the website which can be found from the main menu at the bottom of the “About us” section, but there is lots of other information on the site. As part of this week’s task, you son may be wondering about form groups and houses. Houses and form groups are allocated after we have received information from your son’s primary school, so that we can ensure that students’ needs are best met. You will be notified as soon as the Form groups and Houses are confirmed, which will then enable you to purchase the correct tie. We would also like some additional information from yourselves to feed into this process. This information will be used to help balance the form groups and will also be passed on to your son’s form tutor to help them get to know your son. We are also asking you to suggest up to two other students they may know who are attending OPGS next year with whom they would like to be in a form group. To help us match them up it is useful if you can let us know where they know these boys from – this might be school, a particular sports team or club, a scout troop etc. The more detailed information you can give us for this the easier it is to match the boys and collate the information, so please use full names and specific information if possible.
