We have a highly motivated and well qualified staff, supportive parents and, perhaps most importantly, students who are a delight to teach because of their excellent attitude to learning.
At OPGS we are always striving to match the needs of our students to the rapidly changing economic and higher education environments. The number and variety of offers of places from Oxbridge and other elite universities continues to grow. In recent years, we have also consolidated our connections with City firms and engineering companies. Every year we follow with excitement the careers of our students from years gone by. The fact that so many are keen to take current OPGS 6th Forms students on for work experience is testament to the warm and lasting relationships our staff develop with our 6th Form students.

We were very sad to say goodbye to the beautiful tree in our front reception area over the half term. We were advised by no less than 3 experts that the tree had such significant disease that it needed to come down. The tree has stood for around 300 years so it genuinely is a piece of history and part of the school. We have retained some of the stump and the geography department have kept a section which they’ll use in lessons occasionally. As part of our commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment, we will be planting a replacement later in the academic year.

Spooky stories, powerful voices In English, our students have been developing their oracy skills through the art of ghost-story retelling! From researching local legends and cultural tales to redrafting and performing their stories aloud, students have explored how voice, tone and pace can bring a chilling tale to life. This exciting activity links directly to our English curriculum, complementing our study of Interview with a Vampire in Year 8 and The Woman in Black in Year 9, while celebrating the rich traditions of storytelling across different cultures: one student shared the story of The Baak – a terrifying water-dwelling shapeshifting demon from Assan folklore in Northeast India. Whilst another shared the story of Koh–e-Chiltan, a mountain peak haunted by the spectral spirits of children from Balochistan, Pakistan. Building confidence, creating a compelling and convincing atmosphere, inspired by the Gothic conventions from texts studied in class— what better way to prepare for Halloween? #Striveandserve

We are having the best time at our Science Primary Links event. The Witches and Wizards of the OPGS Magic Academy have had fun finding out who sabotaged Snape’s Lab, working out what their owl’s have been eating whilst delivering the post and how to make a flying broomstick. Thank you to the amazing OPGS Science department and Science prefects who helped to make this such a brilliant event. #striveandserve

Official photographs to come next week but huge congratulations to Alumni member, Chris, who won today’s 5k race with a ridiculously impressive 18 minute time. 🔥 And a big shout out to Ken in Year 9, who finished first out of current students. Well done to everyone who took part and a sincere thanks for giving the school your time on a Sunday.
